Female Pattern Hair Loss
Women's hair loss is more common than we've been led to
believe.
It stems from a genetic predisposition for a by-product
of the male hormone testosterone (yes, women have testosterone
in their bodies, too) called DiHydroTestosterone (DHT)
to reside in the scalp. All hair follicles grow through
a growth-dormant-regrowth cycle. When women experience
permanent hair loss, it is often due to the same cause
as male pattern baldness; an inability to properly break
down the testosterone when present in the scalp.
It is very important that men and women understand that
your genetic coding will effect your hair growth. The
follicles are either going to live or die.
Drugs such as Minoxidil which has been used to treat male
pattern baldness is now being marketed as a possible treatment
for women as well. However, the results have proven to
be a disappointment in their success rates. Only slightly
more than 1/3 of all test subjects report any results at
all.
If hair growth does occur, it is rarely
cosmetically effective. The hair is generally fine and
will grow to only around 1/2" in length as well as
being limited to the crown area. (Only two medications,
Rogaine and Propecia, have ever been approved by the FDA
to treat hair loss.)
The only solution
is more hair.
Options include surgical methods, such as Hair Transplantation
or non-surgical methods such as Hair Integration for Women,
which uses your existing hair to the fullest advantage
and also adds more.
During Hair Transplantation, when the hair from the back
and sides are removed and transplanted to the top of the
head, the same DHT that caused the original hair follicles
to atrophy now no longer has an effect on the transplanted
follicles.
Don't confuse Hair Integration with wigs or hair
extensions. This method of integration is something else.
It is introduced
through a unique process with your own hair growing right
alongside.
You can't tell the new from the existing because it is
so identical in color & texture to your own growing
hair. In addition, your new hair will move and bounce like
your own even when you rake your fingers through it.
